The two Christians of Rwaramba Parish under Muhabura
Diocese in Kisoro district who dragged their Archbishop to court have said they did so after their
concerns were present
ed but ignored by the Church structures.
According to court documents, Innocent Ndagijimana, a member of the Diocesan Council, and Solomon Kana Rugyera, dragged the Registered Trustees of the Church of Uganda, Bishop Cranmer Mugisha, the Diocesan Chancellor Sendegeya Ernest Joel and Archbishop Rev Dr Steven Samuel Kazimba Mugalu for not following lawful church proceedings.
Ndagijimana and Rugyera were on Saturday 10th December speaking to the media in response to remarks made by the Head of Laity for Muhabura Diocese, Mr Tereraho John, who regretted that only the Diocese of Muhabura has dragged the office of the Archbishop to court twice.
Last month, the two Christians went to the High Court Civil Division in Kampala, seeking an injunction on the process of selecting the next Bishop for Muhabura Diocese, saying the matter is not proper without a Diocesan constitution.
Now, Innocent Ndagijimana says the church was run like a family project, which forced him and his friend to run to court on behalf of other aggrieved Christians.
Solomon Kana Rugyera, maintains that going to court was the last option to save the Diocese from future problems. He adds that it was not done out of hate, but to ensure that church leaders follow the necessary procedures.
When asked to further explain the sections of Church laws not followed, Mr Ndagijimana said he would prefer to go for details after the case is finished.
