Kisoro youth leaders castigate sub county chiefs for undervaluing their role.

 

The Kisoro district youths council members have said they are being undervalued by Sub county chiefs a factor that is hindering their leadership activities.

Youths raised the issue during their district youth council meeting that was held on Monday 27 December 2021 in the district council.

Tumwizere John Bosco the Kisoro Youth chairperson says chiefs and sub accountants in almost all sub counties allocate little funds to sub county youth leadership and that they are not cooperating with Youth leaders.

He for instance said  that Nyakinama budgeted 60,000 for its sub county youth council for whole financial year, which he say it is unfair.

He warned that they are going to deal with chiefs who are misappropriating money meant for youths at the sub county.

He told the council that he is going to write to Speaker and CAO about the issue because it has gone beyond.He again rallied youths for government projects like emyooga and parish development model. He said they should form groups to tap government funds.The youth chairperson of Rubuguri town council Twinamasiko Abel says the technocrats at the sub county undervalue youth leadership which is hampering their activities.Natamba Azarious(Azonats) the Nyakabande chairperson youth leader say the chief, sub accountant and the CDOs underlook the youths when it comes on funding their activities.Niyonzima Allan a youth leader from Cyanika town council says they neither get assistance from traditional Chahi Sub County nor Cyanika Sub County. He said that the CDO told them that Cyanika town council is not yet recognized when they requested for transport refund after Youth day celebrations on 27th Nov 2021.


During the Youth day celebrations on 27th November 2021, youth who attended were to get transport refund from their sub counties but only three sub counties fulfilled the obligation. The sub counties that refunded the transport facilitation of the youth are Muramba,Bunagana town council and Nyarusiza while others, their requisition letters are still pending as Chiefs and CDOs tell them that there is no money in their treasurer. For instance the youths from Chahi requested 100,000shs for transport refund but they are still in suspense.Mbabazi Christine the district female youths affairs representative called on females to wake up and join government projects. She said that their voice should be heard by other youths deep in the villages.

Hashakimana Maurice the district youth finance said youth should be transparent in their leadership in order to be trusted by fellows.

He says youths should desist from confirming any information without clarity from higher authorities.

The kisoro deputy RDC Dan Ndikumwami told youths that they should join other forces to fight corruption.

He said corruption is a disease and it should be fought to an end.Ndikumwami promised that his office is there to support everyone one in the district and that no one should fear to seek assistance from his office.

He also says that youths play a Vital role in national development therefore they should not be left behind.
