The Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs
that visited Kisoro district Thursday 09th have been embarrassed by the works of the
One-Stop Border Point at Bunagana border, which is below its expected standard.
The Committee that was led by the Bufumbira South MP, Alex Niyonsaba Seruganda visited the Bunagana border point on the DRC side, and were surprised by the splendid buildings, compared to only one small structure erected on the Ugandan side, of poor standard.
Hon Seruganda, while concluding the visit at Bunagana said that it’s absurd that the works on Uganda’s side are embarrassing, yet there one funder for both projects. He promised to follow up the matter to the highest level.
On the concerns raised by border officials, Hon Seruganda appealed to his fellow MPs to support him in raising such matters in Parliament, including the need for a scanner, gates at the border, accommodation among others.
The Kisoro LC5 Chairperson Abel Bizimana, wonders how 1.3 billion US Dollars can be used to renovate the URA building which was only two years old, and some few substandard structures. To him, this is corruption which he asked the office of the IGG to intervene.
The government of Uganda through the ministry of Trade
Industry and cooperatives and ministry of works and transport on 12 March 2021 launched
