Gapfurizo Youths group to form mega sacco

Leaders have asked Gapfurizo Youth group to keep on harnessing the saving efforts as they plan to turn the group into a SACCO which the members say will strengthen their economic muscle.

The economic advice was made yesterday by different speakers during the annual general meeting of Gapfurizo youth group that was held at Gapfurizo Curch of Uganda in Nyarubuye sub county.

Sam Niyonzima the Kisoro District Development officer commended the group for continuous saving that has enabled them to boost money in the group.

He said that they should continue with the spirit of saving and work together to achieve their target of forming a SACCO.

The minister for labour, gender and social development in charge of Children and Youth affairs who doubles as the Kisoro woman MP and was the guest of honor at the meeting said that, government wants united groups before it releases funds to community. She applauded the group for saving together and asked them to continue the spirit to increase on what they have in treasury. She also reminded parents to prepare the children as schools open in January.

Mpaka Hebert the Nyarubuye sub county chief said he was impressed by the performance of the group. He pledged total support to the group.

Benon Byaruhanga the chairperson of Gapfurizo youth group said that they started with four million through Youth livelihood which the used to start piggery project. He said that they currently have 37 million shilling and they are planning to start a sacco.

Gapfurizo youths group started in 2014 with 15 members and it has moved a step to attracted 150 members including school going children.

During the outbreak of first wave of COVID-19,Gapfurizo youths group is the only group that donated assorted items to the District COVID-19 task force to help people who were being affected by coronavirus.

Mpaka Hebert said the group is not only pro people but also pro-life in the district.
