Authorities in Kabale District have
officially opened Mwanjari Weekly Market with Strict observance of the Ministry
of Health Guidelines on covid 19 Pandemic.
During the presidential address on 22nd September, H.E the president directed that weekly markets in Hotspot Districts of Soroti, Kampala, Kalungu, and kabale, Kumi, Tororo, Gulu, Nwo
ya and Yumbe remain closed. He however directed the ministry of health to review their situation for safe reopening.
Since that time, intense
surveillance, Management of cases and vaccination against covid has taken place
in these areas. In a press statement released yesterday 2nd December
2021, by the republic of Uganda Ministry oh Healthy, informed the district task
forces and the public that the weekly markets can now be opened but with strict
adherence to Standard operating Procedures and the curfew hours.
Addressing the weekly vendors at
Southern Division Headquarters in southern Division Kabale Municipality, Mr Alex
Beingana the Division Town clerk after consulting the District Authorities, he
urged them to ensure strict adherence to the ministry of health guidelines on
covid 19
The chairperson of Mwanjari
Market vendors Association Mrs. Teddy Tabaro and her secretary Mr Turyagyenda
James said they are happy to have successfully achieved the goal they have been
fighting for.
They vowed to deal with any vendor
who is going to defy the ministry of health guidelines, a thing which would
lead to the closure of the market.
They further thanked the
southern division town clerk and the Resident District Commissioner for
considering their concerns and let them work,
By yesterday, the country had
127,485 confirmed cases of covid 19, and 3,252 deaths. Furthermore, the current
admissions were standing at 115 both Public and private facilities. The country
has sustained low transmission of covid 19 with a positivity rate of less than
5%since September 2021.
