Communities living in Nyarubuye Sub County, Kisoro
district are calling for government's intervention after their health center three facility was closed down temporarily on Sunday night following destructive
mudslides.

destroyed by mudslide that occurred due to heavy rain in the area.
Nyarubuye
LCIII chairman Ndiryariye Ernest Buchokori says the damage to the health
facility is extensive and a lot of support is needed to have return to its
normal function.
Buchokori says the water tank supplying the entire
health facility was destroyed; part of the outpatient was submerged by debris
while the store has also been covered completely.
He asked residents to be utilizing HCIIs in the sub
county for a while. He asked for the government's intervention because his
people are in a crisis as some locals were also displaced, others died while
famine outbreak is in the corner because crops have been damaged.
Nyarubuye HC III, the biggest health facility serves
20 villages, offering outpatient and in-patient services including deliveries,
HIV testing and counseling among others.
Spearheaded by their LCs, residents hailing from
the 20 villages have decided to join hands and come together to save their own
health facility.
Two villages per day for the next 10 days will meet
at the health facility with hoes and spades to clear the mud and other debris.
However, in Nyarubuye Sub County, over 10 houses
have been washed away by landslides, crops damaged and its only HCIII was hit
by mudslides last Sunday night, and the facility has since closed.
Ngendahimana Philip the Kirwa village LC1 Chairman
where Nyarubuye HCIII is located says that his people are currently facing
health, sanitation and food crisis due to landslides that have claimed 8 houses
in his village. He noted that all 22 villages in Nyarubuye Sub County and
Rukundo town council have been scheduled to remove the mud covering part of the
health center.
