Communities
of Nkuringo and Rubuguri town councils have expressed worry after Uganda
Wildlife Authority (UWA) threatened to terminate its Memorandum of
Understanding with Nkuringo Conservation and Development Foundation (NCDF)
within three months.
A
letter dated September 16th 2022 written by Uganda Wildlife Authority to the
Chairman NCDF states that NCDF made fundamental changes to the constitution to
prolong term of office and also failed to submit annual performance reports.
Honorary
Warden Kanyamunyu Fidelis confirmed the development and said it will be a huge
blow to the people of Rubuguri and Nkuringo.
A
section of district Councilors have also expressed mixed reactions about the
development.
UWA
spokesperson Hangi Bashir confirmed the development during a phone interview
with Voice of Muhabura reporter. He said NCDF has three months to respond to the letter.
NCDF
Chairman Asgario Turyagenda said received the letter but explained that NCDF is
still working within the terms of conservation and UWA has no power to end the
agreement.
