Speaking to voice of Muhabura on
behalf of the residents, the Kanyamahene LC1 Chairman Tindihemuka James
commended the government of Uganda for allowing tourism activities in Kisoro
and Rushaga in particular saying that it has led to an improvement in the road
network among communities.
Tindihemuka however said that
there is need to connect Kisoro to Rubanda district through Kanyamahene which
will be a short cut root for the people from either district, a factor that
will promote trade and transport.
He also commended the Bukimbiri
county MP, Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu for his efforts to the improvement in
the road network of his county. He asked him to forward locals’ needs of
getting connected to Shanjare in Rubanda district to central government.
One of the native residents of
Kanyamahene Village, Mr. Nyongozi Geoffrey says that his village had stayed for
very many years without a road opening due to its poor topography but the
current government has done it.
He said that the only remaining
challenge is getting connected to Rubanda district by constructing a good
bridge on River Ruhezamyenda in Mukibaya area and also complete the Kanyamahene
– Shanjare road.
By Press time tractors were upgrading the road from Hamurindi trading center to Kanyamahene village. It is said that Bukimbiri county MP Eddie Kwizera Wa Gahungu is the one behind the upgrade
However, another resident identified
as Turyamureba Enock expressed his anger towards the continuous encroachment on
their gardens by wild life conserved for tourism and get no compensation from
the park. He says that there is a likelihood of hunger during this season of
school reopening as all sources of food have been destroyed by elephants,
monkeys, wild pigs among others.
Mp Kwizera has in previous days opened up different roads in Bukimbiri county within five months he has been in Parliament.
