The manager of National water and sewage cooperation –Kisoro area Mr Ariho Peter has revealed that the overflow of sewage at sewage plant IN Kamonyi village was caused by too much rain water getting into the plant premises.
Currently the sewage plant is flooded which has caused un comfort to the people living around due to bad smell coming out of the sewage that is flowing.
According to Ariho, Some houses in the Town Centre have no proper drainage which directes rain water gutters from the roofs into the Sewer pipes. He adds that some Inspection Chamber covers were stolen by possible scrap searchers leaving the Chambers open and prone to flow of rain water.
Ariho told Voice of Muhabura that the Drainage channel along the Gishegera Road is not constructed which causes storm which makes water flows down the hill near St. Andrews Secondary School and settles at the lower part of the sewage plant adding that poor drainage along Kisoro Kabale Road causing flooding near Stanbic Bank, African Art, Ian Point and Jaguar Bus Park causes the storm water flows into the Sewer pipes.
Ariho Peter continued to say that construction works near the Sewer Inspection Chambers where yards are filled with soil making the surface levels to be higher than the Sewage Manholes is causing the problem to sewage plant.
He said that with support of the Kisoro Municipality Health Office NWSC is carrying out house to House inspections along all the sewage pipe lines and searching for houses where rain water from the roofs is directed to the sewage pipes lines and that they are blocking these rain water connections
Ariho added that NWSC is also making new manhole covers for all the damaged and stolen ones
He said that NWSC has requested Kisoro Municipality to construct a proper drainage channel along Gishegera Road to help avoid flooding at the sewage plant adding that they have requested Kisoro Municipality to carry out house inspections and advise owners of affected premises to put in place proper drainage for rainwater from their roofs and desist from connecting them to the sewage pipelines
Ariho also requests Kisoro Municipality to solve the recurrent flooding along Kisoro Kabale Road at Jaguar Bus Park, Ian Point, African Art, Stanbic to help avoid storm water from finding its way into the sewage pipe lines
