The Gorilla highlands coffee organization in Kisoro district yesterday launched and started a new coffee association at Seseme girl’s secondary school to set the mindset change of young girls.
Gorilla highland coffee is one of the Arabica coffee buyers and sellers in Kisoro district and four European countries Australia, USA, Ireland and Japan.
Gorilla highland coffee also started producing and sensitizing community’s especially young girls in most schools in Kisoro on how best they can plant coffee and gets enough production from it.
They started with St. Gertrude secondary school and and created a coffee association to enlighten girls on importance of coffee
Students at Seseme girl’s secondary school commended Gorilla highland coffee organization for creating this association and providing coffee seedlings to help them in future.
Peace Ruzaza the head teacher of Seseme girls said that Coffee project will help young girls to earn money in future .She added that coffee plantation is among the plantations that prevents climate change.
Meanwhile Dusabe Sam the assistant Coffee extension officer in Kisoro and Rubanda districts said that coffee is good to people’s health and it cures some diseases.He said Coffee takes 1-2 years to mature.
The Gorilla highlands Coffee president Rugaya Richard advised people in Kisoro to start planting Coffee because it is valuable cash crop with high demand on the world market.
