This was revealed by the Kisoro education officer
Mwunvaneza Emmanuel who revealed that four of the closed schools are government
aided while three others are privately owned.
The schools that are closed so far are, Bunagana
primary, Bukazi primary,Gihuranda primary school, Kanyampiriko primary, Muramba
seed secondary school,Bunagana pride, Teddy bears and Blessed future primary
school in Bunagana town council
Mwunvaneza added that Gatabo is likely to be closed
if the situation worsens.
He asked parents to bear with the current situation
adding that the date for reopening will be communicated over the radio.
The head teacher of Bukazi primary School said that Parents refused to send their children to school fearing that stray bullets from DRC may hit them.
Close to 7000 refugees and asylum seekers from the
Democratic Republic of Congo crossed into Uganda through the Bunagana border
following the war on Sunday night.
The refugees and asylum seekers are residing in
closed schools, churches while others are sleeping outside.
In related
development, Three
People have been confirmed dead by the Kisoro district Resident Commissioner
Peter Mugisha following crashes between M23 rebels and FARDC forces.
Captain Mugisha revealed that the woman died
of a motorbike accident whereas the children were sickly. He confirmed that the
families which lost their loved ones have been allowed to cross into Congo for
burial.
Furthermore, the RDC revealed that
there is relative Peace as of today. He states that since the evening of 29th –Mar-2022,
no serious shootings have been registered.
On Thursday 31st RDC told
the refugees to return to their homes if they don’t want to go to Nyakabande
transit camp.
The Kisoro district chairperson Abel
Bizimana said that he held a meeting with security and they are going to force
the refugees out of the schools with effect from Friday 1st.
Refugees say they don’t want to go to
Nyakabande because they think they would be taken to Nakivale yet the situation
may normalize soon.
